This week Heather Lynn maker of the adorable COLOR ME CREEPY-Mini Zine, Coloring Book highlighted in her etsy shop coffincritters has an amazing beauty recipe that incorporates both our love of zombies and radiant skin. What exactly do zombies have to do with lovely skin read on to learn more...
Zombie Face Mask Recipe
I call this Zombie Face because it smells so good you'll want to eat your own face! *which is probably not a great idea, btw* easy, cheap, and all-natural, this facial at home will tighten and moisturize your skin while zapping acne.
It's actually great for most skin types! But you extra sensitive zombies should test a small area first, due to the natural fruit acids and baking soda. Although this recipe hasn't been approved by the FDA, it has been approved by zombie beauties!
What you need:
1/4 cup of berries. Frozen or fresh It can be any of the following, or a mix of all of them: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries.
2 TBS. finely chopped apple or apple sauce
1 tsp of dark baking cocoa, unsweetened
2 tbs. honey
1 tbs. lemon juice
1 tsp baking soda
Fresh directions: put fruit in a microwave-safe bowl with a couple of tbs. of water. Microwave on high in 30 second intervals, until fruit is soft enough to be mashed with a spoon.
Frozen directions: same as fresh, just do not add the water.
When fruit is soft, mash it with a spoon or fork. Add cocoa, honey and lemon. Mix. Before you add the baking soda, put 1/2 of the mixture into a separate container and put in fridge for next time. Should keep 3-5 days.
Add baking soda and mix well. While mixture is fizzing, apply to face and leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Enjoy the yummy smell. You will want to eat your face zombie ladies, but resist the urge! Rinse and enjoy the softness.
Be it humorous or romantic, cute or creepy, Heather Lynn uses many types of media to try to illuminate the beauty and magic that can be found in darkness. Pretty faeries, cute zombies, and the horror of the undead all live harmoniously in her world of creation. How to Make Fake Blood
EDT’s Count Down to Halloween!!! Can you have a Halloween party without a big vat of fake blood? I DON’T THINK SO!!! So here’s a little recipe for it from one of our own Debbie of AbyssalGems. Miss Debbie makes fantastic baubles in her shop AbyssalGems. As well as mixing up wicked bath products in her Etsy shop blackrosebath . My favorite has to
the coffee exfoliating soap so you know her blood reciepe is going to be special.
How to Make Fake Blood
You'll need the following:
1 bottle of karos Corn Sryup
1 bottle of dark red food coloring
1 bottle of black food coloring
Pour 1 cup of karos corn syrup into a bowl then drop about 10 drops of dark red food coloring and 10 drops of black food coloring into the syrup ( the food coloring that works best is the ones made by wilton because its the same consistency almost as the syrup) mix it all together until it thickens and begins to look like actual blood.
Use however you plan on using it, whether its to smear on your costumes or to use on your skin.
Washes out easily with soap and water. As a decoration I usually put it into a oil burner and left it out on a table at my front door for Halloween. The kids LOVE it! They thought it was the real thing.

Make your very own “Crystal” ball
EDT’s Countdown to Halloween!
This week Heather Lynn maker of the adorable Pushing Daisies collection highlighted in her etsy shop coffincritters brings us the perfect décor item for those mystical fall nights that lay ahead of us.
Make your very own “Crystal” ball with stand for around $5.00
This is a really fun, easy project that is great for kids also! It won't break the bank either. :) Try using these as centerpieces for receptions and parties, or add them to your Halloween decor. Or do what I do...leave yours out all the time to enjoy!
Difficulty level: 2 (1 being least difficult, 5 being most difficult)
Time: Really depends on how involved you want to get with this. Can take 1/2 hour, or many hours. Dry time is up to a week.
Materials needed:
*Clear glass Christmas Ornament Ball, approx. $.50
*Taper candle stick, can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Dollar Stores usually have plenty of them, and they work just fine.
*Transparent glass paint, (like Delta) approx. $2.50. Your choice of color, but my personal preference is a white shimmer.
*Embellishments (optional) such as beads, findings, tags, trims, natural materials, glue
1) Carefully remove the metal base from the glass ball. You will not need it for this project, so you may recycle it for another project! :)
2) Very cautiously, squirt small amounts of paint into the hole at the base of the glass. As you do this, shake, rotate and swirl the glass orb until you have a THIN, fairly even coat. Does not have to be perfectly even.
3) Place the glass orb with the hole towards the top (so air can get to it to dry the paint) on a safe surface, or in your candle stick. At least twice a day, shake and rotate the orb to ensure even paint coverage. You may add small amounts of paint if needed. This may take a few days to a week or so, depending on the brand of paint and the thickness of the coat, but you will want to continue to do this until the paint is dry.
4) While waiting for your glass orb to become dry and coated evenly, you may opt to decorate the candlestick, as this will be the base of your crystal ball.
5) Once glass orb is dry and base is to your liking, insert the orb into the base with the hole facing downward. Voila! You made a lifelike "crystal" ball!

Sylvie Black Plague art doll sculpture
Sylvie was unfortunate enough to be born in 1338. Her life was good and happy until a few fleas jumped on a few rats, and they arrived by ship to France in 1358. Mere days after the fever arose and the buboes appeared, poor Sylvie was dead from what became known as The Black Death...
